Denise Griffiths: Why do we worry?

Denise Griffiths of Jubilee Church Wirral with a fantastic Mother’s Day message which isn’t just for mums.

It’s for anyone who worries, for anyone who has a parent and for anyone who is loved by God. It’s for all of us.

Denise shares some jaw-dropping stories, inspirational and moving stories about her past and tales we can all relate to.

Matthew 6:28-29: “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labour or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these.”

My feet are on the rock

By Denise Griffiths, Jubilee Church Wirral

I wanted to share with you a song which I recently came across. It is not a new song, but it was new to me.

I don’t know about you, but I have experienced times of uncertainty, times of stress, times when I have been overwhelmed. Points in life at which I have felt like I was drowning in the events that were happening either to me or around me.

My feeling is that the majority of us at some point, particularly in the last two years, have had these moments. They may have been small events and easily sorted or larger issues that needed more work to resolve. However, what we as believers have is the guarantee that we hope and trust is something that will not give way at these times, because our feet are firmly planted on what is true and everlasting.

Jesus never promised that we wouldn’t experience the difficulties of life, but He did tell us he would always be with us. (Matthew 28:20b  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”)

We can depend on Jesus to see us through every circumstance, and more than that, to understand how we are feeling in those times. He was God made man, and experienced not only the joyful parts of life, but the difficult ones too; being misunderstood and hated, weariness and exhaustion, frustration and righteous anger, the death of a friend, betrayal, injustice.

I freely admit that there have been times when I have had to cling to God and my faith, not understanding why circumstances are how they are. I have prayed, wept and wrestled with my Father asking for a reason, clarity and a resolution.

It is then that I know of myself I would be engulfed by the deluge of emotion, but God is my solid ground which raises me above the waves and allows me to weather those storms.

Let me leave you with a thought from Psalm 62:2 taken from The Message translation, which I think says it so well, and enjoy the song;

‘He’s a solid rock under my feet, breathing room for my soul,

An impregnable castle: I’m set for life.’
